Family Footsteps Susila
Family Footsteps Susila
Family Footsteps is a four-part documentary series, creating a sliding-doors experience for four young people by returning them to their migrant parent's homeland. Faced with challanges and surprises along the way interpid explorers live as locals, experiencing how their lives could be today if fate had taken a different course and their parents had not emigrated. We have watched the documentary about Susila travelling in the footsteps of her family's past and confronts the issues close to her heart. India is vibrant with colour, spirituality and music, and it's the music that provides Susila with an opportunity to learn about the culture. India is a backdrop for the journey of self-discovery, as she finds out more about her family and culture and more about herself.
Assessment Tasks:
1. Interview 3 people outside your class (TAFE students on the main campus, neighbours, friends, relatives), who are the second-generation of Australians, about their connection with the background of their parents (follow the interview questions given to you)
2. Report in class about the people you have interviewed
3. Give your opinion about second generation of Australians having connection with the background of their parents (in writing / oral presentation)

Festivals

Festivals are celebrated all around the world. We have been learning about festivals as traditional and cultural events in different communities. Australia as a multicultural country gives opportunities to all nationalities to celebrate their traditional festivals in order to maintain their own culture and also respecting other cultures and learning about their festivals. Your Assessment Task is to research a festival from another country (not your native country) and write a report on that particular festival. You are to find some relevant pictures from internet and make a slide show. Good luck!
